Rules of the online card game OH HELL
Also known in the Netherlands as Boerenbridge
OH HELL is normally played with 4 players, but here you can play with 2 to 7 players. The goal is to score as many points as possible. Below you will find the full rules and several variants.
Cards and values:
OH HELL is played with a standard deck of cards.Cards rank 2 through 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace. Trump cards outrank other suits.
Preparation
- All players receive 10 cards in the first round.
- The trump suit is determined.
Gameplay
- At the start of the round, each player bids how many tricks they expect to win.
- The dealer may not bid such that the total bids equal the number of cards.
Example: 3 players, 7 cards dealt. Player 1 bids 2, player 2 bids 3, then player 3 (the dealer) may not bid 2 (7 - 2 - 3). - The player to the dealer's left leads the first trick.
- Players must follow suit if possible.
- If a player cannot follow suit, they may play any card; trump is not required.
- Once all players have played a card, the highest card wins the trick.
- The winner leads the next trick.
Scoring and Winner
- Each trick is worth 1 point.
- All players who hit their bid receive a bonus of 10 points.
- The winner is the player with the most points after the final round.
Number of rounds
- In the first round, each player receives 10 cards.
- Each following round, players receive one card fewer.
- After the round with 1 card, the number increases again.
- The final round is the round where all players receive 10 cards again.
Variants, adjustable when starting the game
- The number of rounds can be adjusted.
- You can choose decreasing and increasing, increasing only, or decreasing only.
- Normally there is always a trump suit, but you can enable rounds without trump.
- The bonus is adjustable (default is 10 points).
- You can choose whether the dealer may bid freely.
