Rules of the card game Thirty-One

Thirty-One, also known as 31, is a popular card game that can be played with 2 to 9 players. The goal is to get as close as possible to a total of 31 points with three cards.

You can play Thirty-One against the computer, against friends, or a combination of both.

Cards and values: 7 through Ace

Preparation

  1. All players start with 5 coins.
  2. Everyone receives 3 cards and 3 cards are placed face down on the table.
  3. The dealer may choose to keep their three cards or exchange them with the three face-down cards on the table.

Gameplay

  1. The player to the dealer’s left starts.
  2. Each player may exchange one card from their hand with one card from the table.
  3. If a player believes they have enough points, they may pass.
  4. A player may exchange all three cards with the cards on the table; after this, they automatically pass.
  5. The game ends when a player reaches exactly 31 points, or when all players have passed their turn.
